This if directly from GSUSA...

The GSUSA National Board updated the Girl Scout uniform policy as of October 2008 to reflect the changing needs of our members and transformation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Girl Scouts at each level have one required element (Tunic, Sash or Vest) for the display of official pins and awards which will be required when girls participate in ceremonies or officially represent the Girl Scout Movement.

For girls ages 5 to 14, the unifying look includes wearing a choice of a tunic, vest, sash for displaying official pins and awards, combined with their own solid white shirts and khaki pants or skirts. Girl Scouts in high school can also wear a scarf that unites their look with the sisterhood of Girl Scouts around the world.

For adult members the unifying look of the uniform is a Girl Scout official scarf or tie for men, worn with the official membership pins, combined with their own navy blue business attire. Girl Scouts at the Daisy and Brownie levels will continue to have a full uniform ensemble available.

Communication to Volunteers:

In the fall of 2011, exciting new program resources for all grade levels will be released from GSUSA.  In addition to Journeys for every grade level, girls will also have “The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting” which will be fresh, updated handbooks/badgebooks.  Beginning this June, some existing program resources and awards will be phased out.

What does this mean?  If girls are working on certain existing awards, needed publications or awards (pins, badges, patches) should be purchased before June, 2010 when they will be retired and will only be available if they are still in retail store inventory.

You may also be aware that new requirements for the Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards have been introduced. (Visit our council website for more information.)

·         As of October 1, 2010, girls in our council who are beginning work on Bronze, Silver, or Gold awards must use the new requirements.   Not only will all of the Studio 2B materials have been discontinued nationally, we will not accept awards started AFTER October 1, 2010 under the old criteria.

·         Girls beginning work on Bronze, Silver, or Gold awards now are highly encouraged to use the new requirements, which can be downloaded free of charge.

·         Girls who have begun work using the Bronze, Silver or Gold requirements found in the current Junior Handbook or the STUDIO2B Basics Binder inserts should continue using those requirements, but should plan ahead and purchase all needed publications and awards (charms or patches) before June, 2010.  Note:  The Bronze, Silver and Gold award pins may not be purchased until after a girl has earned the award.
